CHAITANYA & DEVOTEES
Artist: Murlidhara Dasa
Shortly after Lord Chaitanya's acceptance of sannyasa (renounced order of life),
He left Jagannatha Puri and traveled to South India to liberate the people there with His sankirtan
movement (congregational chanting of Krishna's holy names). He met with the heads of the Madhva and Ramanuja sampradayas. He also defeated the Buddhists in debate and performed many extraordinary pastimes.
These are mentioned in the Chaitanya-charitamrita, Madhya
lila, chapters 3-10. When Lord Chaitanya returned from His tour of South India to Jagannatha Puri after six years,
He was reunited with many of His associates in this loving meeting. Lord Chaitanya spent most of His sannyasa life at Jagannatha Puri enjoying Krishna katha (talks about
Krishna) and Krishna kirtan (congregational chanting) in the association of His devotees.
