KRISHNA & JARA
Artist: Bharadwaja Dasa
Just after the demise of Yadu dynasty by fratricide, Lord Krishna was sitting under a Pippala tree at Prabhasa and meditating
on leaving this world. His mission of reestablishing religious principles was now complete. At that time the hunter Jara,
from a distance, saw the Lord's foot as the face of a deer and released an arrow. The arrow grazed the Lord's foot,
and understanding his offense, Jara came forward and fell at the Lord's lotus feet, begging forgiveness. Lord Krishna
informed the hunter that this was part of His pastimes and not to worry. Lord Krishna then sent the hunter to Vaikuntha in
a spiritual form. In this painting the Lord's four symbols have manifested as personalities around Him. Shortly after
this pastime, Lord Krishna left this world as the devatas glorified Him and looked on. This pastime is mentioned in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, 11th canto, 30th chapter.
