Description of: PRABHUPADA 8 Artist: Dhruva
Dasa
His Divine Grace, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Goswami
Prabhupada came to America in 1965 at the age of seventy years on the order of his spiritual master, His Divine Grace Srila
Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur. Srila Prabhupada traveled from Calcutta on a merchant ship, the Jaladuta, a free passage
from the owner of the Scandia steamship line. During the two month passage he had experienced a heart attack during which
Lord Krishna appeared to him and granted him life and success in his mission. When Srila Prabhupada arrived in Boston Harbor,
he had less than seven dollars. An Indian family from Butler, Pennsylvania had sponsored him. Because of his faith and pure
devotion to his guru and Krishna, he spread the Krishna consciousness movement all over the world in twelve years under the
banner of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness or ISKCON. He established more than fifty temples world wide
and translated the Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam,
Chaitanya-charitamrita and other Vedic literatures into the English language. He slept
only three hours a night. He was an empowered representative of Lord Krishna and Shree Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He gave up everything
for the service of the Lord. Srila Prabhupada is in the Brahma-Madhva Gaudiya disciplic line, which includes the appearance
of Shree Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
