SHUKADEVA GOSWAMI INSTRUCTS KING PARIKSHIT
Artist: Murlidhara Dasa
Once the great King of Bharata Varsha, Parikshit, the grandson of Arjuna, was touring his kingdom and came across a sage in
meditation. The King was thirsty and thought the sage had avoided greeting him. King Parikshit took a dead snake and wrapped
it around the sage's neck. When the sage's son came to know of this, he cursed Maharaja Parikshit to die within seven
days. The King took this as the mercy of the Lord and went to the Ganges to end his life by fasting. At that time all the
renowned sages of the world came to see King Parikshit's passing. Shukadeva Goswami, the son of Vyasadeva, happened to
be passing the bank of the Ganges and sat down to instruct the King in spiritual matters at the end of his life. The King's
questions and Shukadeva's answers constitute the major portion of Srimad-Bhagavatam.
